Director of Risk Management (Clinical Nurse)
Position Summary:
The Director of Risk Management is responsible for developing, implementing, and
managing a comprehensive compliance and risk mitigation program to ensure the
organization’s assisted living communities operate within the framework of federal,
state, and local regulations. This role ensures ethical practices, resident safety, risk
identification, and regulatory adherence. The Director works in collaboration with clinical
and operational leadership and provides subject matter expertise for managing and
reducing clinical and operational risk across assigned regions.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Oversight:
● Monitor and interpret regulatory changes affecting assisted living operations.
● Ensure all communities maintain compliance with state licensure, OSHA, HIPAA,
and other applicable regulations.
● Support communities during audits and inspections, and develop corrective
action plans when needed.
● Maintain a compliance calendar and track risk mitigation outcomes.
Policy, Procedure & Training:
● Develop and implement risk management policies and protocols.
● Lead staff training efforts related to compliance, incident reporting, and
prevention of high-risk events.
● Coordinate with the Senior Director of Clinical Services to ensure consistent
standards of care are implemented across all communities.
Audits, Incident Response & Investigations:
● Lead internal audits and investigations related to clinical risk or regulatory
breaches.
● Track and analyze incident reports, falls, elopements, med errors, and other
adverse events.
● Develop and oversee action plans to reduce recurrence and improve safety
culture.
● Manage incident documentation and whistleblower reporting system with
assurance of confidentiality and non-retaliation.
Litigation & Insurance Support:
● Serve as liaison to the organization’s legal counsel and insurance carriers.
● Participate in claim reviews, investigations, and litigation preparation as needed.
● Support the company’s insurance renewal process with data analysis and claim
reporting.
Regional Nursing Support & Collaboration:
● Provide clinical support across an assigned region in partnership with the Senior
Director of Clinical Services.
● Assist with onboarding, mentoring, and oversight of Resident Care Leaders and
Wellness Nurses.
● Conduct bi-monthly nursing leadership meetings in collaboration with the Senior
Director of Clinical Services.
● Attend weekly home office visits or management meetings to coordinate
company-wide clinical and compliance strategy.
● Support implementation and optimization of electronic health records, clinical
protocols, and risk tools.
Quality Assurance & Technology Integration:
● Oversee Quality Assurance programs in all communities, ensuring consistent
execution and outcome tracking.
● Serve as the lead contact and administrator for the AUGi system, guiding
integration, data review, and incident response workflows.
● Ensure that AUGi and other risk platforms are effectively utilized and staff are
trained accordingly.
Qualifications:
Education & Licensure:
● Active Georgia nursing license (LPN or RN).
● Risk Management Certification or Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC)
preferred.
Experience:
● 5+ years in healthcare risk management, compliance, or clinical oversight roles.
● Experience in assisted living, skilled nursing, or long-term care environments.
● Familiarity with Georgia Department of Community Health regulations and adult
care standards.
Skills & Competencies:
● Proficient in incident analysis, audit procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills.
● Able to educate, influence, and lead across all levels of the organization.
● Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
● Proficient in Microsoft Office and compliance or healthcare software systems.
Work Environment:
● Hybrid role with weekly home office visits and frequent travel to communities.
● May require extended hours during investigations, inspections, or crises.
